THE SING-OFF

The Sing-Off begun Monday and I cannot seem to get  some of the songs out of my head.  If you haven’t plugged into this show, you need to.  It is fantastic!!  Acapella groups have been chosen from around America to come sing for a chance to win some major cash and a recording contract.  Each group is so different, but so good.

Here are a couple of my favorites – too bad the Whiffenpoofs went home last night :(

New Car….But Not By Choice

Got up to go to school

And remembered what to bring

Even got out early from class

Not worried about a thing

It was time to go to work

So I hurried on my way

There was lots of construction and traffic

Oh what a terrible day

A driver cut me off

Whoo! - that was close

A put my foot to the brake

So my car would slow

We eventually came to stop

And then we started again

Before I knew it, she slammed on her brakes

And that was surely the end

My purple car is dead

But now I have something new

It may only be a white ’96 cavalier

But it will surely do

So now I am super careful

And drive like a little old man

Because if I am not more cautious

I will be stuck riding in my mom’s van

Learning How to Curl

Curling.

Yes that absolutely ridiculous thing they call a sport on the Olympics.  All you have to do is push this stone down the ice to score – seems easy enough.

Well it is not as easy as it looks, but it is rather fun.  Last weekend I had my first curling lesson.  We quickly found out that it takes a lot of practice to throw the stone at the perfect speed.  My friends and I started learning and we found this older man that was willing to help.  He helped teach up the proper way to throw and sweep the ice….and all was going well until he fell and possibly broke  his nose.  I guess we are bad luck :(

Overall it was a really fun day and I highly suggest the experience.  Just be careful because the ice is slick :)

TrimLine Visits the 80s

Group Photo!

Last night our TrimLine group traveled back to the 80s! We tried on their hair, makeup, and the fabulous clothes that go with it. We had a blast rocking to songs from the era….including favorites like Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Thriller and Whip It!

Another Busy Year…

SOME OF MY BOOKS

Work, class, homework, eat, sleep, repeat.

As I head back to class for my fourth year of school, I feel very unprepared.  I put off buying books and my class schedule wasn’t finalized till the 2nd week of classes.  Life has gotten crazy fast!  I tend to thrive on chaos, but this semester appears to be much more than I expected.  I’m sure I am not the only one that feels overwhelmed so here are a few tips for staying on task and motivated:

  • Read the textbook before class…you will feel less panic if you get called on
  • Plan study time…don’t expect it to just happen
  • Find a way to limit distractions….do you study better in your room or maybe the library?
  • Create a To Do list…Being able to cross things off can be great motivation
  • Schedule breaks….Your mind can only focus so long before you need to take a short breather
  • Join a study group…It helps to have support
  • Get sleep and eat breakfast….Your mind will work better with rest
  • Don’t procrastinate…..This will only make you more stressed

Good luck everyone….hope you have a great semester!!!

New House, New Roomies

So if you all have read my blog about the Bahamas, you know that I spent my time there sharing a cabin with some other girls.  And through that experience I met a lot of great people and bonded with my roomies.  This is why in May four of us Bahamian-cabin-sharers decided that it would be a great idea to rent a house together for the upcoming year.  Now I’m not the type of person that just jumps into anything….I have to think about it forever, but at this point in my life I was like – what the heck, why not?  So here I am two months later, living in a new house with new roomies.

It has been quite an interesting experience thus far.  There are three rooms in the house, which means two of us have to share….and yes I would be one of those people.  I wasn’t too worried about it moving in because I had just spent three years of my life living in a dorm with at least one roommate if not two.  However, my roommate hasn’t had quite the same experience – she enjoyed having her own room and now I’m in her space. :)   So I am slowing teaching her the value of optimizing every inch of the room, but things usually just land wherever.  This is the first time in my life where I felt like I have less stuff than my roommate, which is wild because I thought I had A LOT of stuff.

So my roommate may be the messy one, but you have to love her because she is always entertaining.  She is also super supportive of recycling.  She is a beast when it comes to running.  She LOVES LOVES LOVES Dave Matthews.  Always is cooking something interesting and new.  Almost loves the sun as much as Dave Matthews.  I could go on, but this post would eventually be too long to read.

Then we have the artist.  She is fun, wild and has a completely different perspective on life.  She makes it her duty to talk me into staying up late watching movies or doing something else completely unproductive.  She loves cartoons.  She is the only one in the house that I can get to watch the Bachelor with me, and yes, now we are watching the Bachelor Pad….which is pretty much the worst spin-off show ever, but still slightly entertaining.

Next is a fellow rad-tech classmate.  She is smart beyond belief.  Enjoys watching Criminal Mind reruns with me all day long.  Has the cutest and weirdest dog ever created…its best trick is called gummy bear and yes that is exactly what she looks like.

Last but not least me.  I am the OCD person of the house.  I am in charge of keeping the house clean, clean, clean.  I have the worst sleeping schedule, and often am found sleeping on the couch instead of my bed because I have fallen asleep in the middle of some task.  Try to be productive, but am easily distracted. First time experiencing cable and the magical powers of a DVR.

It has been a crazy couple of months with our varied personalities, but I have had some of the most memorable and fun times of my life.  The house isn’t perfect…in fact I could probably write a whole book about what surprises have come our way, but I guess it is like the old saying:

what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. :)

3 Years Later….

After three short years of hard work and fun, it is finally time to graduate! I have finished my Associates degree in Radiologic Technology and will begin working at a nearby hospital as soon as my classes come to an end.  However, I am not completely finished with Saint Francis.  I will be continuing on to finish my Bachelors degree in Health Services and hopefully my Masters in Healthcare Administration.

Here are some pics from graduation day and from our last day of class:

Trim-Line!!!!

Last year I helped one of my friends get a group of people together twice a week for dance fitness.  It was a lot of fun and we got a great group of people involved.  So at the end of the year we decided that it was time to make it official…so as of last month, we are officially a campus organization.

But what exactly is Trim-Line?

Well for starters, Trim-Line is student-led.   It is a campus organization consisting of all kinds of people with one goal in mind. We combine individual expression in the form of dance and aerobics to produce one fun hour of fitness. We meet twice a week, where we can use laughter and movement of our bodies to relieve some of the stresses of school and daily life. We dance to various styles of music and are always open to suggestions.

**Although Trim-Line is very similar to the well-known Latin inspired Zumba®, Trim-Line is in no way affiliated with Zumba®.

Spring Fling – Welcome to CandyLand

Spring Fling Week came and went again…

Monday: Spring Fling Kickoff at Ice Cream Mountain and Bowling in the GumDrop Sea

Tuesday: Pinata Fiesta where we let our students take out their frustrations and reap some candy rewards.  Then later that night we watched as Mission Improv entertained through impromptu comedy acts.

Wednesday: We gave out free trees at the Lollipop Forest and had a fun-filled day of Tie Dye.

Thursday: We celebrate with our annual gong show….yes lots of outrageous acts.

Friday: We ended the week with a casual dance at Club Candy, which I spent most of my week decorating for.   We hosted the event in the student center to give it more of club atmosphere.

Check out my pics from the dance:
